Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Monday, 21st October 2019

Outbound Flight: Washington D.C. to Amman or Tel Aviv

Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Transfer to Jerusalem.

  • Welcome dinner.
  • Meet with Abraham Path Initiative and Aeolus Tours (Jerusalem-based tour operator) representatives. Meet the guides. Discuss itinerary. Answer all participants’ questions. Ensure all are set for their journey.

Day 2: Burqin to Arraba (14.7 km; 4–5 hours)

Monday, 22nd February 2021

This is a hilly path. You will reach Jabal Barid (the “cold mountain”) overlooking the city of Nazareth.

7:00am         Breakfast at hotel

7:30am         Bus to Burqin village

9:30am         Meet guides

9:45am         Visit to Canaan Fair Trade. Olive picking and tour of their center. Lunch on site.      12:30pm       Walking journey to Arraba

5:30pm         Arrive in Arraba village

  • Cooking with the Mardawi family. Renowned on the Masar Ibrahim al Khalil for their entrepreneurial spirit, hospitality, and cuisine excellence, the Mardawi family hosts dozens of guests per year.
  • In Palestine, it’s customary to cook for guests and serve them. It is rare to cook together or join them for a meal. The purpose of this activity is to exchange culinary practices and encourage reciprocity. You will eat together!
  • Gathering at the Mardawi home. Tea, coffee, desert, and conversation on the terrace.

8:00pm        Divide into smaller groups. Go to other family home stays for overnight stay.

Day 3: Arraba to Sanur (12.07 km; 4–5 hours)

Get a view of the Palestinian countryside, walking through vast fields and agricultural sites.   8:00am      Breakfast with families

9:00am      Meet guides. Tour of Ottoman ruins and historical overview of the area.

9:30am      Begin walking journey for the day

3:00pm      Arrive in Sanur village, Climb to the Palace of Sanur

4:00pm      Olive picking with local farmers

6:30pm      Cooking and dinner with families

  • Connect with families. Hear about their lives. Exchange.

Day 4: Sanur to Sabastiya (15.5 km; 5–7 hours)

Thursday, 24th October 2019

This is a challenging trek with more climbing. Walkers will encounter many ancient holy ruins on hilltops, where some pilgrims still come to pray.

4:00pm      Arrive in Sabastiya village

  • Tour of village with expert local guide
  • Visit active cooperative centers
  • Evening of dabke, traditional Palestinian dance

8:00pm      Overnight in guesthouses

Day 5: Sabastiya to Nablus (12.10 km; 2–3 hours)

his is an easier hike. You will walk from the countryside into the heart of the city of Nablus.

8:00am      Breakfast with families

9:00am      Meet guides. Begin walking journey for the day

1:00pm      Arrive in Nablus

  • Visit the Old City of Nablus
  • Options: Knaffeh cooking class, visit to the Samaritans, Soap Factory, Jacob’s Well

7:00pm      Dinner. Overnight in hotel.

Day 6: Day in Ramallah

Saturday, 26th October 2019

8:00am      Breakfast together in hotel

9:00am      Bus transfer to Ramallah

10:30am    Visit to Yasser Arafat Museum

12:30pm     Lunch

1:30pm      Afternoon with Palestinian social justice activists

3:30 – 5:30pm Free time to explore

5:30pm     Cooking class with Izzeldin Bukhari, founder of Sacred Cuisine

7:30pm     Dinner

8:30pm    A Night of Poetry, Hip-Hop, and Expression with Palestinian artists. Learn about the Palestinian hip-hop scene and slam poetry and how they’re used as a voice for expression. Then, live it! Share the D.C. approach.

Day 7: Day in East Jerusalem

Sunday, 27th October 2019

8:00am     Breakfast at Ramallah hotel

9:00am     Bus transfer to Jerusalem

10:30am    Tour of Jerusalem

12:30pm    Jerusalem Food Tour in the Old City

Day 8: Departure

Friday, 18th October 2019

Transfer to either the border crossing if traveling from Amman or to Ben Gurion Airport, Tel Aviv

Possible Alternative: If the group is interested in visiting a desert terrain, there is the option of going to Jericho for a walk, followed by a visit to the Aubergine Hotel and meeting with the chef there. It is active in the Palestinian entrepreneurial scene. This may lead to a change in the existing quote.

Pre-Journey Preparation

In order to make the most of the experience, participants will be invited to participate in a pre-departure webinar leading up to the journey.

Participants will also be required to have the appropriate gear for the hike. A suggested packing list will be included as part of the pre-departure information pack with ample time for questions.

A detailed itinerary will be provided by the Abraham Path Initiative for participants outlining further details. Rates exclude: airfare, any meal or accommodation not included in 8-day itinerary, personal expenses, hiking gear (shoes, packs, walking poles, etc.), tips for guide, restaurants, and hotel staff, and travel insurance.

We recommend bringing an additional $300 in cash for other personal expenses. It can be exchanged to Shekels either prior to travel or in Jerusalem.

Optional Extras

Please note that some of the accommodation will be in home stays and guesthouses and all of the overnight stays will include shared lodging with another participant. If you would like a single room where it’s available (not in home stays or guesthouses), there will be an added cost. Please request about booking and registration.

Payment and Cancellation Policies

A deposit of no less than 30% of the value of the trip will be paid upon registration. Full payment must be made by Friday, August 16th. Participants also have the option of paying the full amount upon registration.

 Registration is open until Saturday February 1st, 2020 at midnight. Registration is limited to fifteen participants and will be closed after all spots are filled.

Cancellation notice:

  • From deposit receipt date to 51 days or more prior to departure: $300.00 cancellation fee per person.
  • Between 50 days and 36 days: $600.00 cancellation fee per person.
  • Between 35 days and 26 days: $1500.00 cancellation fee per person.
  • Between 25 days and 16 days: $2250.00 cancellation fee per person.
  • Within 15 days before arrival and no shows: Cancellation fee of 100% of trip cost will apply.

INSURANCE

The tours do not include any forms of personal travel insurance. The Client will be solely responsible for purchasing comprehensive travel and trip insurance policies to cover any unforeseen situations that may occur before, during and after the trip.

 VISA

As a tour operator based under Israeli jurisdiction, Aeolus Tours can facilitate and work with group members for visa application through the Israel Ministry of the Interior. Aeolus Tours is not able to affect or influence the visa process in any way. All decisions regarding such authorizations go back to the Israeli Ministry of Interior who as a body is solely responsible for any authorizations and rejections of visas.

 DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Aeolus Tours will make every attempt to honor dietary restrictions and preferences. The Client is solely responsible to inform Aeolus Tours and any other third parties of any dietary restrictions, allergies or medical conditions.

 HOTELS

Hotel check-in is at 3 p.m. on the arrival date and check-out is at 12 p.m. on the departure date. The Client will be responsible to coordinate flight times to coincide with hotel check-in and check-out times as best as possible. Late hotel check-out will incur additional charges, unless arranged with Aeolus Tours otherwise. In the event that accommodation choices have changed, the Client will be notified by email in advance.

Aeolus Tours has taken every measure to work with reputable hotels and tour guides; however standards of hygiene, transportation, timeliness and accommodations in the Middle East are often lower than those in the Western World. As such, Aeolus Tours will consider service levels met, when they meet the same requirements as in the destination country.

FLIGHTS

The Client is responsible to inform Aeolus Tours of inbound and outbound flight information so that airport transfers can be coordinated appropriately.

 IN CASE OF COMPLAINT

 Aeolus Tours is committed to maintaining a high level of service. In the event that the Client feels that the services are subpar, the Client may inform the tour guide or Aeolus Tours of the situation immediately so that steps can be taken to rectify any concerns.

 PRIVACY POLICY

Any personal information shared by the client is considered confidential and shall remain private and will not be made publicly available by either party.

 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

The AEOLUS TOURS and Services are provided on an as-is and as-available basis. You agree that your use of the Site and/or Services will be at your sole risk except as expressly set out in these Terms and Conditions. All warranties, terms, conditions and undertakings, express or implied (including by statute, custom or usage, a course of dealing, or common law) in connection with the Site and Services and your use thereof including, without limitation, the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

We make no warranties or representations about the accuracy or completeness of the AEOLUS TOURS content and are not liable for any (1) errors or omissions in content: (2) any unauthorized access to or use of our servers and/or any and all personal information and/or financial information stored on our server; (3) any interruption or cessation of transmission to or from the site or services; and/or (4) any bugs, viruses, trojan horses, or the like which may be transmitted to or through the site by any third party. We will not be responsible for any delay or failure to comply with our obligations under these Terms and Conditions if such delay or failure is caused by an event beyond our reasonable control.

Aeolus Tours, in providing services pursuant to these Terms and Conditions, shall not be responsible or liable for any acts, errors, omissions, delays, missed connections, accidents, losses, injuries, deaths, property damage, or any indirect or consequential damages resulting there from, which may be the result of action, inaction, default or insolvency of any airline, hotel, car supplier, other third party goods or service suppliers except in the case of negligence or misconduct by Aeolus Tours.

RESPONSIBILITY OF AEOLUS TOURS

Aeolus Tours will always provide clients with the appropriate assistance without undue delay in any situation. This will include providing thorough communications pertaining to a client’s booking. Clients will be assisted in matters regarding information on health services, local authorities, consular assistance, immigration, customs and helping to find alternative travel arrangements. We may charge you a reasonable fee for such assistance if the difficulty is caused intentionally by you or through your negligence.

JURISDICTION

Aeolus Tours is obligated to follow Israeli law and is subject to the jurisdiction of the Israeli courts.
